A breast surgeon seeing 40 patients per clinic day can now move between patients without delay.
When Dr Ran Li, a breast surgeon working across oncology, endocrine and general surgery, started in private practice, he typed his own letters and notes.
“There’s no way I’d be able to do that now.”
Dr Li estimates that typing a letter from scratch took him up to 15 minutes per patient. With Medow, it’s under five.
“It’s much more efficient than typing or dictating, that’s definite.”
The biggest change is when that documentation is happening. He no longer types up notes between patients, which could leave the next patient waiting. He records the consult and moves on, and the full transcript is there when he comes back to finalise the documents.
In breast surgery, the side and the exact pathology details have to be right. Medow lets him customise his templates, make amendments, and review recordings and transcripts so every letter is exactly right before it goes out.
Dr Li had briefly trialled other AI scribes before Medow. What set Medow apart was its deep integration with Gentu.
He reviews and finalises each letter in Medow, then exports it straight into his Gentu template, ready to send.
“Automatically populating the template, and just clicking into Gentu and pressing send, it’s much easier than copy and pasting.”
Dr Li occasionally consults in Mandarin. He can speak freely with the patient, switching between English and Mandarin if needed, knowing his letter will still come out in his usual template, ready to send. Nothing about his workflow changes.
“The multilingual thing is really good. Being able to recognise the language is quite important.”
With his previous scribe, support was there if he asked for it.
“They sort of said, oh, you can email us at any time to fix things.”
With Medow, it works the other way around. He gets regular, structured check-ins. Solveigh, his Customer Success Manager, keeps an eye on how he’s using it, and when she spotted a chance to fine-tune his templates, she set up a meeting to work through it.
“She’ll voluntarily contact me to offer support… I can email, but I’ll often forget. We’re so busy that when support comes to us, that makes our life easier.”
“The time saving is significant and definitely worth the price.”
